World-Class AKC Golden Retriever Puppies for Discerning Families.

We work from a reservation list for our puppies, and most have homes waiting for them before they are born. If you have decided you want a Spun Gold Golden Retriever puppy, please download a Puppy Application from our "For Sale" page. Once you fill it out and email it to us, we will review your completed application, and may schedule a follow-up phone interview or ask for references. Once you are approved, a non-refundable $500 hold fee will be required to reserve your place on our list, noting any requests you have (gender, size, personality, etc.). 

NOTE: We do not add names to our reservation list until we have approved the application and the hold fee has been received. The hold fee is non-refundable. However, it is completely transferrable - to another litter, dog, or even another person (as long as that person fills out an application and is approved). Should you cancel your reservation outright, we reserve the right to retain the hold fee if we need to advertise the puppy or need to hold on to it longer until we have an approved family.

We are often asked how we handle picking puppies in a litter, and the answer is pretty simple: we will give families preference by the order in which we receive  their deposit. 

We mostly just assist each customer in the selection process. However, we do reserve the right to select the particular puppy that fulfills the requirements the buyer specified in their application if we feel that the buyer selects a puppy that is not a good fit. No buyer is obligated to take a puppy they decide against – even if it matches the specific criteria they requested in their application. In that instance, buyers have the option to wait for a puppy in another litter or have their deposit refunded.

Our Golden Retriever puppies receive the following care prior to going to their new families:

Puppy Socialization:  This is the key to ensuring that your beautiful puppy will quickly become a happy, well-adjusted family member. Our litters are raised in our home with an abundance of attention and handling. Our children are actively involved with puppy care. The puppies are introduced to various noises, experiences, surfaces, toys, car rides, motorized vehicles, other pets, obstacle courses, and more.

Obedience Training: Different than other breeders, we begin working with our puppies individually at 4 weeks of age. Once you bring your SGGR puppy home at 8 weeks of age, that foundational training makes it a breeze to continue more complex obedience training, housebreaking, crate training, and socialization. Our Golden Retriever puppies are naturally very smart. And, between the ages of 4 to 8 weeks, they learn lightning fast! Often, our puppies transition to their new homes quite smoothly, without any issues. Our method takes a lot of work, and a loss of sleep, but in the end, we produce puppies that are a joy to take home at 8 weeks of age. Housebreaking:  Like with obedience training, we begin housebreaking at 4 weeks of age. We get our puppies on a potty schedule early, which makes housebreaking a piece of cake. Our Golden Retriever puppies are naturally very smart, and they take to our schedule quickly. Golden Retrievers are naturally clean, and if raised in a clean environment, they will avoid soiling their living area if at all possible. Often, our puppies are not pooping indoors by 6-7 weeks of age. Our method takes a lot of work, and a loss of sleep, but in the end, we produce puppies that are a joy to take home at 8 weeks of age.

Worming:  Our puppies receive regular preventative deworming to avoid any parasitic issues. We have a complete protocol beginning at 3 weeks incorporating pyrantel pamoate, fenbendazole & metronidazole. This ensures your puppy comes with a settled stomach and no dormant issues that will surprise you just after your puppy gets home. We use Simparica Trio and Panacur to protect against heartworm, other internal parasites, and flea/tick control in our older puppies and adults. Once you take your puppy home, your veterinarian can advise you on a recommended program based on your geographical location.

Veterinary Health Check, Vaccinations, Eye & Heart Exams:  Every one of our puppies is examined by an experienced small animal veterinarian at 7 weeks of age. This exam includes a full physical, including a cardiac and eye exam. All pups will be microchipped and come with a lifetime membership to AKC Reunite. Depending on the age of your puppy, it will have at least its first puppy vaccination. We will provide you with a detailed vaccination recommendation to share with your veterinarian. We like Dr. Dodd's Vaccination Protocol, which is intended to avoid any health issues caused by over-vaccinating. Rest assured, you are getting a healthy Golden Retriever puppy - and, we guarantee it! 

We do genetic testing through Paw Print Genetics on all of our breeding stock for the entire Essential Golden Retriever panel of breed-specific diseases. These include Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) 1 & 2, Progressive Retinal Atrophy/Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration (prcd-PRA), Ichthyosis 1 & 2 (ICT), and Neuronal Ceroid Lipfuscinosis 5 (NCL).  Additionally, we send x-rays of our dogs' hip and elbows to the OFA for review and ratings. Plus, we have our dogs hearts and eyes checked for OFA clearances.  We continually strive to improve our bloodstock’s Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI), as well. SGGR is committed to producing Golden Retrievers that are as healthy as they are beautiful.

All of our puppies are sold with a full written guarantee that they are in good health. We offer 1 year genetic health guarantee against any genetic disorder that would prevent the dog from being able to be a happy & healthy member of your family. What you feed your dog plays an enormous role in his/her health and longevity. Because of that, we will offer a lifetime guarantee if you continue to feed the food and supplements that we recommend and have started the pups on. In our breeding program, we are vigilant to select only bloodlines that are noted for their top health clearances.

In compliance with the Golden Retriever Club of America’s Code of Ethics, all of our pet puppies are sold under the AKC Limited Registration program. This gives them eligibility for all AKC Events, Programs & Competition, with the exception of Conformation. Any offspring are ineligible for AKC registration.
