At Spun Gold Golden Retrievers, we have done extensive research into canine diet & nutrition. The importance of whole, healthy, species-specific foods is often tragically overlooked. Not only that, vitamins and minerals derived from a variety of sources ensures that you cover any nutritional gaps in a 'one-food-only' diet. It's just common sense... do you eat the same food for all of your meals? Every day? All your life? No, you certainly do not! Obviously, you'd get bored. More importantly, you would most likely develop serious nutrient deficiencies and many other forms of dis-ease.
All of our dogs and puppies are fed raw meat & bones from multiple species that are locally sourced, raised in a humane conditions, and are also fed species-specific diets (ie: cows eat grass and hay; chickens eat grass, meat, insects & some grains). Some of the raw meats we feed include beef, pork, venison, chicken, turkey, rabbit, eggs, and fish (usually salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, herring, whitefish, and striped bass).
Raw fruits and vegetables are also a staple of SGGR's feeding plan - pretty much whatever a dog will eat! (Other than the 3 that are actually toxic to dogs: grapes, onions, and macadamia nuts.)
Included in our dietary program are also multiple digestive enzyme, nutrient-dense and anti-oxidant powerhouses such as dried kelp, coconut oil, and green tripe.
Finally, our menu is rounded out with a premium kibble and canned food (we chose Life's Abundance) - to help cover all of our bases. Also, when you feed a variety of foods, your dog typically doesn't get sick with tummy upsets - ie: diarrhea and vomit. This is basically because their digestive tracts have all the flora and fauna required to digest a multitude of different foods.
As you can imagine, this supremely healthy diet is costly. However, the saying, "You are what you eat," is a scientific fact. Food is medicine - for all living beings.
